New SIPS Family Home, Stirlingshire

We were approached to build a large four bedroom SIPs house over three floors on a restricted access, sloping site. In addition to the very high thermal performance specified in the design for the house, a basement was also included, which had to be dug into the rock of the sloping site with retaining walls to the rear of the property.

Challenges

The site itself was extremely steep and rocky and had to be excavated and broken down to create the correct levels. Gabion basket walls and a fully waterproofed basement were installed by our in-house teams.

Due to the site constraints, the use of a crane was restricted to lifting only the large SIPs roof panels. The rest of the kit was designed and manufactured to be manageable by hand in order to cope with the restricted access.

SERVICES DELIVERED

We carried out a full turnkey service for this project, which was managed from start to finish. Our team undertook the extensive excavation works, concrete retaining basement works and suspended concrete slabs, which facilitated the construction of the
three-storey house.

Following the construction of the foundations and basement, JML supplied and erected the SIPs kit which was clad in Denfind Stone and Western Red Cedar. Internally, the property was completed to a very high standard, utilising a bespoke handmade oak staircase. Towards the rear of the property, we used our Civils operatives to install a three metre high gabion retaining wall and landscaped the garden with natural stone slabs, Millboard decking and a tarred driveway.
